The Fluid Self: Embracing the Journey to Unity and Higher Consciousness
When the “One” is seen, there is no one and no “One,” just the seeing. The color of water. A simple image which captures the very essence of mysticism, and the nature of the paradox within which the seeker must live. Water symbolizes both the fluidity and the potential purity at the core of the mystical life. There is no rigidity, no self-opinionatedness, just the compassionate fluidity of empathy, tenderness, and melting substances.When water is pure it reflects the color of the container in which it is held. We live within many “containers”: the physical body with its organs and sense perception, the social fabric and relationships, our likes and dislikes, our profession, our opinions, our beliefs and principles, our fears and ambitions, even our spiritual life, our dreams, our aspirations, our deepest experiences. All these are different parts and aspects of the individuality within which we are contained. These aspects lend us color, distinction, and characteristics. We are distinguished from one another; we behave differently in different situations, with different people: we do not behave the same way when we are at work as when we are with friends in a social gathering, when we are ill as when we are healthy, when we are angry as when we are content, when we fall in love as when we fall out of love, when we meditate as when we watch a movie. Circumstances change constantly, yet at heart the project or aspiration, be it blameworthy or praiseworthy.
When viewed from the heart of hearts, from “the secret of secrets,” all is connected to the Source of Total Being.To the extent that the water is pure, it has no color of its own. It has no character, no features. It reflects whatever passes on its way, whatever throws its reflection upon it. Ultimately, within its very depths, the water reflects the black light of the Absolute Darkness.
This is why the masters have prayed to become colorless and featureless. And it is in this vein that the master of is featureless and its disciple is featureless. He who knows it, knows.

A veil is anything that obstructs, mists, blocks, distorts, or clouds your experience of the Divine Truth. Veils develop as a result of experiences that are painful or traumatic. Purification of spirit leads to inner peace, spiritual enlightenment, and a closer relationship with the divine. All the tragedy in life comes from the absence of purity. And as pure really means to be natural, the absence of purity means to be far from being natural. “Abandon your crown and throne”, in stark contrast, others like Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, are told:
“You will incur blame on yourself, should you abandon your crown and an inept person then comes to assume it after you”.
Some are trialed by water, some by fire. No matter how grueling the trial may be, curing a spiritual disease, as is the case with physical illnesses, requires a trust in the doctor and precision in using the recommended remedy; and more. Negligence in taking medication for a physical illness may only inflict harm that will, at worst, last as long as one lives on earth; yet negligence in taking the vital medication to treat an illness of the heart is tantamount to wasting a life of eternity.
